CLIMATE AND MENOPAUSE CLINIC

Menopause Clinic

At Emory Women Clinic we specialize in the management of women's conditions before, during and after menopause:

Menopause is the time that marks the end of menstrual cycles. It is diagnosed after twelve months have elapsed without you having a menstrual period. Menopause can occur between the ages of 40 and 50, but the average age is 49 in Mexico.

Menopause is a natural biological process. However, physical symptoms, such as hot flashes and emotional symptoms of menopause, can alter sleep, decrease energy or affect emotional health, but above all cause vascular diseases, being the main cause of death in women. There are many effective treatments available - from lifestyle adjustments to hormone therapy.

In the months or years leading up to menopause (perimenopause), you may have these signs and symptoms:

  • Irregular menses

  • Vaginal dryness

  • Hot flushes

  • Shaking chills

  • Night sweats

  • Trouble sleeping

  • Humor changes

  • Weight gain and slow metabolism

  • Hair thinning and dry skin

  • Loss of breast volume

  • Urinary incontinence

  • Sexual dysfunction

Symptoms, such as changes in the menstrual period, are different for each woman. You will most likely notice some irregularities in your menstrual periods before they end.

Not menstruating for a month during perimenopause is common and expected. Often times, menstrual periods will be absent for a month and come back, or skip several months and then start monthly cycles again for a few months. Menstrual periods also tend to occur in shorter cycles, so they happen closer to each other. Despite irregular menstrual periods, pregnancy is possible. If you didn't have a menstrual period, but you're not sure you've started the menopausal transition, consider taking a pregnancy test.

When to see your gynecologist

Make regular annual visits to your gynecologist for preventive health care and to evaluate any medical concerns. Continue these visits during and after menopause every year.

Preventive health care as you age may include tests for common conditions, such as colonoscopy, mammography, triglyceride, cholesterol, and Pap smear tests. Your gynecologist at emory Women Clinic might also recommend other tests and tests, including thyroid tests if your history suggests it, as well as screenings for osteoporosis, breast, uterine and ovarian cancer.

Always consult your specialist at Emory Women Clinic if you have vaginal bleeding after menopause and call 442 195 9896 to make an appointment as soon as possible.
